Dermal Fillers

A Burst of radiance for your face You can stay young and maintain a healthy complexion as long as you look after yourself. Unfortunately with aging the skin starts to lose its elasticity, the lips lose their volume, crow’s feet appear around the eyes. If only we could have a tiny boost here & there … well, you can act now & let your wishes come true…

Without the need for preliminary tests, a simple injection of Hyaluronic acid, will erase minor imperfections and signs of ageing, leaving your skin incredibly even and smooth.

Hyaluronic acid fills in naso-labial folds and marionette lines or smoothes moderate or superficial wrinkles. Very naturally but not irreversibly, your lips regain their sensuality and your face its smooth curves.

Hyaluronic acid is also an excellent volume enhancer, which - when injected into the cheeks will restore your youthful, healthy appearance.

Over the past few years, hyaluronic acid has emerged as the miracle compound for filling in wrinkles.

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally present in the dermis and serves to keep tissues hydrated, slowly becoming re-absorbed over time.

Hyaluronic acid injections provide a replacement source of this hyaluronic acid, which gradually disappears with age.

 The benefits of Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a transparent, homogeneous viscoelastic gel that has four essential benefits:

Immediate, Long Lasting Results

Hyaluronic acid allows immediate treatment. A touch-up after a few weeks ensures optimum, long-lasting results.

The effects of Hyaluronic acid usually last for 9 months. This period varies according to the type of skin, the areas treated, the amounts injected and the injection technique. In some cases, the effects may last for up to one year.

On average & depending on the viscosity of Hyaluronic acid, the effect lasts for 6-18 months in the lips because of their high vascularisation.

The Filorga  laboratory has made every effort to optimise the longevity of Hyaluronic acid, thanks to a highly concentrated formula and the use of an innovative manufacturing process known as cross-linking, which connects hyaluronic acid molecules to each other via chemical " bridges'. The resultant molecules are larger and therefore more resistant to In situ degradation.

 The Treatment

The Hyaluronic acid range is suitable for patients of all ages.

It is also an ideal implant for preventing the appearance of wrinkles in fragile areas in young people and for erasing imperfections.

Hyaluronic acid Injections should be seen as a course of treatment. Your doctor will therefore suggest a schedule of injections that corresponds to your individual needs. Respecting this schedule will Improve and prolong the aesthetic results.

 Wrinkle-filling injections

In a session lasting a few minutes, with a simple Intradermal Injection of Hyaluronic acid, your doctor will smooth out your wrinkles or Imperfections and give your face a burst of radiance. You can resume your social and professional life immediately.

Anaesthesia

Practitioners may offer local anaesthesia to make the procedure more comfortable, by applying an anaesthetic cream or by local superficial anaesthesia.

The Hyaluronic acid range is available in five versions

... depending on the depth which is to be corrected

We use Filorga XHA3 (tri valent).

 Pre-injections recommendations

If your pores are dilated on the site to be treated, it is recommended that you carry out an astringent treatment: an astringent lotion, cleansing mask or a preparation based on vitamin A acid or AHA (ask your doctor for advice). You are strongly recommended not to take aspirin or anti-inflammatory substances during the three days and. if possible, the week before the injection expressions.

Post-injection recommendations

In the hours following the injection, we recommend that you avoid excessive Facial expressions.

Similarly, you are advised not to:

Make-up and your usual skincare products may be applied on the day after the treatment.

The above advice is designed to ensure that you obtain optimal results.

For any further information, please ask your doctor for advice.

What are the possible side effects?

Inflammatory reactions (redness, oedema, erythema, etc.), which may be combined with itching or pain on pressure, may occur after-the injection. These reactions may last for week.

Indurations, or nodules may develop at the injection site.

Very rare cases of discoloration (reversible) of the injection area have been reported.

Rare cases of necrosis affecting the glabellar region abscesses, granuloma, and hypersensitivity have been described in the literature after erections of hyaluronic acid. The persistence of such reactions for more than a week or the appearance of any other side effect must be reported to you, practitioner immediately.

If you require any more information, please feel free to contact us at any time

Contraindications

Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding.
Areas with inflammatory and/or infectious skin problems (acne. etc)
In combination with a laser treatment, chemical peeling or dermabrasion.
Do not forget to tell your doctor about your past medical history, such as:
A tendency to develop hypertrophic scarring, autoimmune diseases, immunotherapy treatment, known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid.

If in any doubt, a consultation with your doctor prior to the injection will be essential.

Hyaluronic acid

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar chain molecule found in all skin and soft tissues

throughout the body, identical across species. It attracts and binds water in the skin, providing

volume and hydration, but also ‘cushioning’ and supporting collagen and elastin fibres and providing a medium, or carrier, for chemical messages between the cells.

Dermal fillers are manufactured, usually through fermentation and cross linking with proteins toproduce a clear, sterile gel for injection into the skin. Not all hyaluronic acids are the same and legitimate brands are not available for general sale on the internet and should only be administered by trained clinicians.

Each brand has a range of ‘tissue tailored’ products indicated for different areas and depths of injection. One size does not fit all.

Does it hurt?

Many dermal fillers contain local anaesthetic to provide pain relief during the procedure although some practitioners may apply a topical anaesthetic cream or ice prior to treatment to numb the skin.

The procedure may be uncomfortable but is not usually painful. Certain areas, such as the lips, are more sensitive.

Treatment areas

Before treatment

After treatment

Most people are able to continue with normal activities. Some will have some redness, pin-prick marks, swelling (particularly following a lip treatment) which should settle within a few days. Cold packs may be advised to help alleviate swelling and arnica may be recommended to reduce bruising. Your practitioner will provide you with aftercare advice.

Bruising and swelling may be more apparent the next day and can take up to 14 days to disappear. Tenderness should settle within 48 hours.

After treatment it is expected that you will see an improvement straight away although due to initial swelling, the product may feel hard or lumpy or asymmetrical immediately afterwards. The final results are best judged at a 2-week review appointment. Depending on the product used and the area treated, results may last from 4 months to in excess of a year.

•        Soon after your treatment with Hyaluronic acid there may be slight redness, swelling and some tenderness and itching at the site of the treated areas. This is a normal effect of the injection, it is only temporary and as a rule will disappear in one or two days. If it persists, or if any other reactions occur, then contact your medical practitioner.

 •        When the lips are injected the initial swelling may last longer. Some patients can experience swelling for up to one week and the lips can look uneven during that time. Therefore the immediate result after Hyaluronic acid treatment to the lips is not the final result.

 •        Avoid touching the treated areas for at least 6 hours. Then, the areas can be washed gently with soap and water and light make-up can be applied.

 •        Patients who have had herpes simplex (cold sores) in the past should note that there is always a risk that injecting any product around the lips may cause the herpes to flare up again.

 •        Patients taking aspirin or similar medication should be aware that this could increase bleeding and bruising at the sites of injection.

 •        Hyaluronic acid will gradually dissolve over a few months and the results achieved are not permanent. It will be necessary to visit your practitioner again and it is usual to have Hyaluronic acid treatment again within six months of the original treatment.

Things to look out for

Please contact your practitioner if redness, tenderness or swelling worsens after 3 days, rather than settling. Though some tenderness is to be expected, pain is not and should be reported. If the skin appears dusky or mottled, blisters appear, the skin is becoming hot or red or the area is becoming painful, contact your practitioner immediately.

If you suffer any of the following symptoms, which may indicate a serious allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention:

Am I suitable for treatment?

Your practitioner will take a detailed medical history and an assessment of your needs and expectations to ensure this is an appropriate treatment for you. This must be a nurse, doctor, dentist or prescribing pharmacist with specialised training, qualified to prescribe.

We mainly use FILORGA & BCN Mesoceuticals

Botolinum Toxin for cosmetic use -
AKA Botox

What is Botulinum Toxin Type A?

Botulinum toxin is a naturally occurring protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. In a purified form, as is the case with many drugs/medications such as Penicillin, Botulinum toxin is a very safe, effective treatment not only used in cosmetic clinics, but also for a number of medical conditions, including migraine and excessive sweating.

Licensed brands of botulinum toxin A include Botox©, Azzalure©, Bocouture©, Xeomin© and Dysport©. All botulinum toxins are prescription only medicines (POM) and can only be prescribed by doctors, dentists and nurses or prescribing pharmacists with the prescribing qualification, following a face to face assessment and consultation with the qualified prescriber.

How does it work?

The toxin blocks the transition of chemical messages sent from the nerve to cause the muscle to contract. Without these messages, the muscle stays in a resting state until the ‘messengers’ recover. This recovery takes approximately 8 to 12 weeks on average.

The aim of this treatment is to significantly reduce the movement of the muscles causing expression lines (dynamic lines). It may not cause the expression lines themselves to disappear completely, this will depend upon the quality of your skin and may take time over a course of treatments. It may not ‘completely freeze’ the expression, particularly if extreme effort is exerted to make an expression.

Botulinum toxin is not suitable for lines present without expression (static lines), your practitioner will advise you. There may be only a partial reduction in movement this very much depends on the amount administered and location of product placement – This is not a one size fits all treatment and may be tailored to suit your individual requirements and expected treatment outcomes – discuss this with your clinician at the time of consultation.

Does it hurt?

A very fine needle is used and generally this treatment is not painful and can be well tolerated with no anaesthetic.

Ice may be helpful in numbing the skin for nervous patients as well as reducing the risk of a bruise.

Treatment areas

Though widely used in cosmetic medicine and with an extensive evidence base to support safety and efficacy, Botulinim toxin A brands, Botox, Azzalure  Bocouture (aka Xeomin), Dysport and others...

Before treatment

After treatment

Most people are able to continue with normal activities. Some will have some redness, pin-prick marks, possibly minor swelling which should settle within an hour. Bruising may be more apparent the next day and can take up to 10 days to fade. Tenderness should settle within 48 hours. It is possible to suffer a headache or a sensation of tightness or heaviness for a few days following treatment. Pain killers may be taken as required.

After treatment it is expected that you will start to see an improvement within 2 or 3 days. The full result may be judged at 2-3 weeks. You may be invited to attend a review appointment at 2-3 weeks where the success of the treatment may be assessed and adjustments to your personal treatment plan made if necessary.

Results tend to last 3-4 months Movement will begin recovering from 8 weeks. Frequent treatment at intervals of less than 3 months is NOT recommended.

Things to look out for

Please contact your practitioner if redness, tenderness or swelling worsens after 3 days, rather than settling. Though some tenderness is to be expected, pain is not and should be reported.

If you suffer any of the following symptoms, which may indicate a serious allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention:

If you are at all concerned about symptoms you were not expecting or any that concern you, you should contact the practitioner who treated you and make an appointment to be seen.

If you wish to see someone else, contact your practitioner and ask for a copy of your treatment record and or a referral letter. This detailed information will be important if another practitioner is going to safely help or advise you.

If you suffer any adverse reactions or a poor cosmetic result, it may be that correction is not possible and you will be advised to wait until the muscle recovers and the toxin wears off. All side effects are temporary and reversible as the effects wear off.

Is it safe?

All treatments carry a degree of risk. All risks and complications will be discussed with you at

consultation and prior to any treatment being agreed.

Botulinum Toxin should be administered by a healthcare professional with specialist training. Adverse events are uncommon, usually occur within a few days of treatment and are expected to be temporary, usually resolving spontaneously within weeks.

Your practitioner will provide aftercare advice designed to minimise risk and promote speedy recovery from any expected side effects.

Side effects include, but are not limited to:

Am I suitable for treatment?

Your practitioner will take a detailed medical history and an assessment of your needs and expectations to ensure this is an appropriate treatment for you. This must be a nurse, doctor, dentist or prescribing pharmacist with specialised training, qualified to prescribe.

Except in exceptional circumstances this is not a treatment recommended for those under 25 or over 65.

For best results skin should be in good condition and the target lines not too furrowed. Your practitioner will assess your suitability and advise.
